Vitamins For Hair Loss- A Simple,
Natural, Non-Invasive Approach
Before you invest a lot of time and money
in drugs or chemical or medical treatments, try vitamins for hair loss. A
diet that is deficient in B vitamins and certain minerals can contribute
to hair loss. So it stands to reason that nutritional supplements rich in
these substances may help to halt or reverse the process. Taking vitamins
for hair loss is easy and inexpensive. There are no side effects, no long
doctor visits, no lotions, potions or serums.
B vitamins for hair loss are essential to
hair health, growth and strength. Take a good-quality B-complex supplement
daily and be sure to seek out foods high in B vitamins like soy beans,
peas, carrots, cauliflower, eggs, nuts, bran and nutritional yeast. It's
also a good idea to take additional doses of B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic
acid) and B6 (pyridoxine). Another critical B vitamin is biotin. Besides
hair loss, biotin deficiency can cause fatigue, depression, nausea, muscle
pains and anemia. Make sure your supplement has biotin.
Besides the B vitamins, vitamin E plays
an important role among vitamins for hair loss.
Vitamin E can improve circulation in the scalp and may stimulate hair
growth by enhancing the immune function. Some sources suggest that
vitamins A and C also play a role, so taking a supplement containing these
vitamins might be beneficial.
In addition to vitamins for hair loss,
the mineral zinc may also play a role. Severe zinc deficiency can cause
hair loss and scalp problems and can even negatively effect the structure
of the protein in the hair. When the diet is supplemented with adequate
amounts of zinc, the problems reverse. Another, mineral, magnesium is also
reported to slow hair loss. Selenium has proven to foster healthy hair and
PABA is believed to protect hair follicles. L-cysteine and l-methionine
are two amino acids that might prevent hair loss and encourage hair
growth.
Vitamins for hair loss are not the whole
story. Vitamins work in tandem with minerals, trace elements and amino
acids to strengthen hair and prevent hair loss. For example, zinc and
Vitamin A work together. A deficiency in either can lead to dry hair, oily
skin and possibly hair loss. Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron, an
important component of healthy blood. Inositol keeps hair follicles
healthy at the cellular level. We can't know all the possible combinations
that may be beneficial as vitamins for hair loss, but we do know that
there are benefits.
So how do you know if your supplement is
the right one? Read the label carefully. There are some products that are
marketed as "hair vitamins" that will contain a higher proportion of these
many of these ingredients than regular daily supplements. Such a product
might be a good choice. Do some reading and decide for yourself which
vitamins you need. In general, though, starting with a daily multi-vitamin
and mineral tablet, supplemented with additional B-complex can do no harm
and certainly may do a lot of good when considering vitamins for hair
loss.
